The term ‘Jack O’Lantern’ was conceived in Ireland to describe lit pumpkin heads. They were named after wily Jack, a man who managed to trick the devil and was thus forbidden from both heaven and hell. It is said he continues to walk the Earth trying to trick gullible travelers!
