An unlikely friendship was forged between Ireland and the American Choctaw Indian Tribe, when the latter sent the former money during the famine. This was despite the fact that the tribe had just been forced to walk the Trail of Tears. You’ll find a monument of appreciation to the tribe in County Cork.
