Congratulations to Pauline Bell, who was the National Spelling Bee's first female winner and in only the event's second year to boot! The 13-year-old Pauline correctly spelt the word "cerise" in the final round to claim the title, being held at the National Museum in Washington, D.C. In case you're wondering, "cerise" means a light clear red colour.
