The vast, sprawling story of Middle Earth began with one little line – “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.” J.R.R. Tolkien wrote this one unassuming little line on the back of a students paper in his Oxford office whilst daydream. Curious to discover more, he started digging and digging, and went on to create perhaps the most successful ‘high fantasy’ series in history, beginning with The Hobbit.
