The first documented mention of golf appears in a 1457 Act of Parliament. Believe it or not, engaging in the sport of ‘gowf’ and ‘futball’ was made illegal by the then-presiding king, who found the sports to be distracting from archery practice and military training. Sounds like a fun guy.
