Ada Lovelace (1815-1852), who is considered one of the first computer programmers, worked closely with Charles Babbage on his work in mathematics. This collaboration helped lead to the computer. She was the first person to design an algorithm expressly designed for a machine to play. Babbage referred to her as “the enchantress of numbers.”
