The word for ‘witch’ actually comes from an Old English word ‘wicce’ which stands for ‘wise woman’. Originally, people would come to the wise women and ask them to solve their problems giving them advice and medical remedies. Soon the church became dominant and the women were ostracized as ‘witches’ who had to be eradicated.
